The summer months are fast approaching, and that means that those hot summer days are, too. Summer is a time that should be spent relaxing, swimming, and catching some rays, not wondering if your air conditioning unit can handle the heat.
Here are some tips you can try at home to be sure your air conditioner is set up for success:
-
Check and Change Your Air Filters
It’s no surprise that your air filters are collecting dust, allergens, and other particles that might be obstructing airflow in your home and making your A/C unit work harder than it needs to. Be sure to check your air filters and see if they need replacing before the heat hits. It is recommended that you check your filters once a month and replace them as needed.
-
Make Sure Your Unit Isn't Blocked
Landscaping or other materials surrounding your A/C unit can affect the cooling system, so be sure to look and see if the unit is potentially being blocked. For reference, it is recommended that landscaping be 2-4 feet away from the unit to maintain normal airflow.
-
Weatherize Your Home
To ensure that all that cold air is not escaping your home, make sure your home is weatherized by caulking and sealing air leaks with weather-stripping.
