The summer months are upon us, and if there is one thing we know for sure, it’s that everyone is trying to stay as cool as possible without breaking the bank. Here are 5 easy ways you can keep your house cool all summer long!
1. It’s all about the windows.
A great way to block the heat from entering your house is to keep your windows covered. The summer months are a great time to invest in a thick curtain, shutters, or a blackout curtain. You could even invest in a thermal shade! This barrier will keep the heat and light from entering your windows and heating your space.
2. Change the direction of your fan.
A simple way to cool down your space is to change the direction of your ceiling fan. When standing under the fan, you should look up and have it be running counterclockwise. This pulls cooler air from the ground and brings it up to cool the air around you. You’ll thank us later.
3. Close the doors to rooms you are not in.
Be sure to close the door to rooms you are not currently using during the hottest time of day. This will prevent cool air from filling these spaces and allow it to fill the rooms you need to keep cool.
4. Change your bedsheets.
In the summer, ditch those flannel and fleece blankets and opt for a cotton sheet. Heavier fabrics are perfect for insulation during the colder months, but the light sheet will not hold as much heat!
5. Get your HVAC unit inspected.
If you feel like your Air Conditioner isn't working up to snuff, it may need a simple repair or, depending on its age, need to be replaced. Here are a few tips for making sure your air conditioner is running at its best—but if you think it may need a little extra TLC, give Allied a call and we'll send a technician out to run an inspection and help you determine its health.
Happy cooling!
